Bridging Half the World

Sending volunteer groups from Taiwan to east Africa has been one of the long-term operations of Step30. Over the past few years, we have led 427 volunteers to walk into East Africa, visited over 100 families in villages, held jigger treatment for children, cared for orphanages and schools, and learned from African mama's what everyday life is like in the village.

Volunteer Story
In 2016, the red earth of Kenya captured Ann's heart. After years of supporting from afar in Taiwan, she returned in 2023 to see her friend's school project finally bear fruit. Feeling the warmth of the pink classroom walls, she realized this was more than an ideal—it was the starting point of a new life for hundreds of children. She realized that even ordinary people like us, when willing to walk together, possess the gentle power to save lives and create something extraordinary.
Mama’s Day
The "Mama's Day" Experience This activity is a highlight of the international volunteer trip. Volunteers shadow local mothers to experience their full daily routine, including carrying water, collecting firewood, and cooking over open fires. This hands-on experience allows volunteers to witness the hardship and perseverance of local women, offering a deeper insight into the challenges of poverty. Participants often reflect that this day teaches them to cherish their own comfortable lives and respect the incredible strength of these mothers.
Visiting Local Institutions
In the most deprived corners of the world, local institutions are the last safe haven for vulnerable children. Beyond bringing love, volunteers are there to accompany these children, hearing the stories of struggle and resilience that define their lives. We deeply understand that real change does not come from the heroic acts of individuals, but from the collective power of long-term persistence. This touching journey inspires a shift in perspective. Upon returning home, volunteers see their world through new eyes, continuing to serve as a guardian force for others in their own society.
