Clean Water for Life

Water is essential for all of us to maintain body function, and it is a crucial part of our everyday lives.  Without water, we cannot survive. People living below the poverty line in rural Africa share untreated water with animals, Creating an even higher risk of contracting diseases. Millions of children's lives are in danger. Many health centres in rural areas are also incapable of providing comprehensive medical care without clean water.
Water Wells
Step30 partners with local teams to conduct field surveys, hydrological studies, and water tests before drilling wells in villages. These wells provide safe, clean drinking water, protecting communities from waterborne diseases. By saving hours once spent fetching water, children can return to school, and adults can focus on their livelihoods.
Community Water Committees
Step30 brings together village chiefs, principals, and elders to form local water committees that ensure wells are sustainably managed after our team leaves. Each month, households contribute a small fee to a community fund, fostering both a sense of ownership and collective responsibility for maintaining the wells.
Artificial Reservoirs
Although Somaliland experiences two rainy seasons, years of drought have left the land unable to absorb and retain water. Step30 works with local teams to excavate artificial reservoirs, lining them with natural materials to hold rainwater. These reservoirs not only provide clean water for nearby communities but also restore local ecosystems, enabling farmers and herders to develop sustainable livelihoods and stable incomes.
